Where do you currently reside (Springfield/Joplin/Little Rock/Northwest)?
I work remotely in Batesville, Arkansas.

What is your current role/title and provide a brief job description?
I am a Senior Proposal Coordinator at Garver. I develop proposals for Garver's Aviation Team.

What inspired you to join SMPS, and how long have you been a member?
I joined SMPS in 2018, and I can't believe it has been that long. My manager at the time mentioned SMPS and after looking into it, me and my teammate attended a multi-week webinar series on improving proposals. It blew my mind!! I learned so much in those sessions--it was an absolute game changer for my day-to-day work. I've been hooked on SMPS ever since!

What led you to the AEC industry and what do like about it?
I stumbled into the AEC industry through a friend from grad school. I knew the field existed, but I had no idea opportunities for creatives like me existed in AEC! I love the fast pace and the fact that no two projects, proposals, or clients are alike. I am constantly learning new things and being challenged to grow as a professional.

What valuable information have you gained from participating in SMPS?
I've gained information about how to be better at my job--strategies to try, processes to adopt, and ways of thinking about problems that have helped me be successful. Beyond information, I've found that the community and network of SMPS is the most valuable thing. It's easy to feel isolated when you're a marketing person in a sea of technical staff who sometimes seem like they are speaking a different language. Being able to share stories and struggles with other marketers who truly understand because they have been through the same thing--that is what SMPS is all about.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Never give up!

What is your favorite pastime or hobby?
I have three kids, and they are my pastime. I love spending time with them--we like going for walks around the neighborhood and hiking.

What is your favorite book?
I just finished Lessons in Chemistry -- it was so good!!
