What inspired you to join SMPS, and how long have you been a member?
In 2019, while I was interning at a company, the marketing coordinator and director encouraged me to join SMPS. At the time, I had little experience and wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m incredibly grateful for the relationships and opportunities it has brought me since!
What led you to the AEC industry, and what do you like about it?
I stumbled into the AEC industry largely thanks to my stepdad, a construction project manager. Growing up, I was always around projects he was working on, and over time, I became fascinated by the process of turning ideas into actual, tangible structures. Once I started learning more about the industry, I quickly fell in love with how dynamic it is—no two projects are ever the same. I enjoy the collaboration and competitive edge between teams to create something that truly impacts communities. It’s an industry where you can see the results of your work, which is so rewarding.
What valuable information have you gained from participating in SMPS?
Participating in SMPS has been incredibly valuable to me, mainly because I’ve met great mentors and friends who have supported me throughout my career. Since there isn’t an AEC marketing degree in college, SMPS has been my go-to source for learning the ins and outs of the industry. The knowledge I’ve gained through networking, workshops, and shared experiences has helped me understand AEC marketing better and grow in my career.
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
The best piece of advice I've received is to focus on what you can control and let go of what you can’t. Worrying about things outside your control only creates stress, while directing your energy toward what you can influence leads to progress and peace of mind.
What is your favorite pastime?
I love hiking, camping, and anything outdoors.
What is your favorite television series?
Gilmore Girls!
