Where do you currently reside (Springfield/Joplin/Little Rock/Northwest)?

I live in Northwest Arkansas, in the Johnson/Springdale area. 

What is your current role/title and provide a brief job description?

Content Specialist / Copywriter

As a part of Garver’s Communications Team, I write, edit, and contribute to content strategy for external and internal content. This includes everything from landing page copy, LinkedIn ads and social copy, blogs and longer form articles, and brochure copy, to internal emails and messaging. 

What inspired you to join SMPS, and how long have you been a member?

I was looking for a professional organization that could help me learn more about marketing and the AEC industry and my boss, Laura Nick, recommended I join SMPS. This year is my first as an SMPS member.

What led you to the AEC industry and what do you like about it?

A friend sent me Garver’s job post about a copywriter and content specialist position. I didn’t know anything about the AEC industry, but Garver looked like a fun place to work. After two years of working in the industry there are many things that I like about it, such as the industry-wide dedication to creating infrastructure that serves communities. I also enjoy learning about what our engineers do to protect our access to clean drinking water, make our highways safe, etc. 

What valuable information have you gained from participating in SMPS?

I’ve learned about knowledge management, which I find very interesting. I’ve learned more about the clients we serve, which is invaluable. And I’ve learned that there are lots of cool people involved in similar or the same type of work; it’s been a pleasure to meet them at events.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

Make the copy about the client.

What advice do you have for someone just starting out in AEC Marketing?

Join SMPS!

What is your favorite pastime or hobby?

Cycling. Reading. Walking the dogs.

What is your favorite book genre?

I love memoirs and non-fiction.
