What's your name and current role in your organization?
My name is Stacy Newman, and I am a Marketing Coordinator for Insight Engineering.
Where do you call home? (Springfield/Joplin/Little Rock/Northwest)
Little Rock, Arkansas
What inspired you to join SMPS, and how long have you been a member?
I’ve been a member of SMPS Ozarks for almost 3 years. I was looking to grow my skill set and make connections with fellow marketing professionals after taking a new position with Insight Engineering. Insight’s Founding Principal, Kim Koch, introduced me to Abby Perrine, and together they cheered me in!
How did you find your way into the AEC industry, and what keeps you excited about it?
The industry chose me! I was originally in the banking industry in San Diego, California, when a good friend of mine recommended I fill her position at Parsons Brinckerhoff (now WSP) because she was heading back to her home state. It was a huge change up for me at the time, and it altered the course of my life.
I love how creative, analytical, efficient, and solution-focused this industry is. It blends logic with innovation to create comfortable spaces for our human experience. What keeps me excited about it is how it evolves and adapts to our ever-changing environment.
What valuable information have you gained from participating in SMPS?
The most valuable aspect of SMPS is the connections I have made with fellow professionals, specifically in the AEC industry. As a member of the SMPS Ozarks Communications Committee, I’ve gained invaluable experience collaborating with a talented team. I appreciate the practical hands-on opportunities SMPS Ozarks provides, from crafting custom tailored proposals to InDesign workspace set-ups.
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Forget everything you know when starting something new.
What's something surprising or fun about you that most people in the industry might not know?
I occasionally create special/practical makeup effects and props for films. It started out with my love for Halloween costumes as a child, turned into a hobby while working at a Halloween store in the 90s, and really blossomed when I relocated to Arkansas. I have about a dozen short film credits, most of them local.
If your personal brand had a tagline, what would it be?
Everything Party!
Do you have a favorite author?
Paulo Coehlo - "You are what you believe yourself to be."
