What inspired you to join SMPS, and how long have you been a member?
I have been an SMPS member since 2009. I joined because I did not have any formal business marketing education. I needed SMPS so I could learn how to market professional engineering services.
What led you to the AEC industry?
My father was a Civil Engineer. He owned a small engineering firm and needed marketing services as they were growing. He asked me to do some marketing tasks part-time from 2004 – 2009. That eventually led into a career change when I went full-time serving his company.
What valuable information have you gained from participating in SMPS?
Where do I start? I definitely learned how to do this job from SMPS programs and conferences. But more than that, the connections and friendships I have made and continue to make in SMPS have provided support and encouragement in my career development.
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
"Marketing A/E/C services is a marathon, not a sprint."
"Your lack of planning is not my emergency."
What is your favorite pastime?
Mountain hiking! I love to hike in the mountains, and I love summiting 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado.
What is your favorite book?
This is not a cop-out or cheesy quick answer. In all seriousness, The Bible is far and away my favorite book.
